An interesting site I came across allows you to calculate the amount of CO2 emissions in your flight plans. I chose my departure from Chicago, IL, with my destination being Puerto Rico...and the amount of CO2 emissions would be 741 kg and the total warming affect would be 2222 kg. The site also gives you an interpretation of what all this means for people who need a practical example...like myself =)

I'd be interested to hear from people regarding ways they've tried to control allergens in their home or offices. I've studied it and have personal experience, having allergies, but I thought I'd try to open something up here. "Nearly 80% of the $10 billion dollars that the commercial food service sector spends annually for its energy use is lost in inefficient food cooking, holding and storage, says PG&E's tech division."

"The average restaurant annually consumes roughly 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, 20,000 therms of natural gas and 800,000 gallons of water. Using the latest EPA carbon equivalents, that amounts to 490 tons of carbon dioxide produced per year per restaurant, PG&E estimates."

"Then there's all that trash. Restaurants produce far more garbage on a daily basis than most other retail businesses. A typical restaurant generates 100,000 pounds of garbage per location per year, the Green Restaurant Association estimates."

Almost everything that comes from a restaurant can be recylced or composted.

Some companies have turned green by using hybrid cars for their deliveries, turning hamburger grease into bio diesel fuel, using less paper wrapping, reintroducing the paper straw, and constructing green buildings.

Critics wonder whether this proposed migration into the "green" economy is monetarily benficial for restaurants...what do you think?

Is there anything we can do to stop the presumed depletion of America's farm products? Can the percentage of people who actually endorse the organic products make an impact on commercial distributions by boycotting those products etc.?
